Fine art A level is truly personal. You will have the opportunity to explore the work of other artists, experiment with media, techniques and scale, Work independently on your own visual journey whilst working amongst the vibrancy of other like minded people.
Here at Huntington we have 3 fully equipped art rooms and the bonus of an art studio which is exclusive to sixth former. Here you can explore your creativity during your frees, before and after school whilst still within easy reach of your art teachers. This gives you the freedom to progress in a space big enough to develop the largest of outcomes.
We have a great success rate for results and lots of our students go on to study art further, here is a quote from one of last year’s brilliant students:
“I am about to go into my first year of BA Illustration and Visual Media at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. The benefits of A Level art for me were the fact that I developed my technical abilities as an artist. We explored lots of different media, styles and techniques that helped my skills as an artist develop. Doing A Level art taught me the crucial skill of critical thinking, which is a key aspect of my University course. I really enjoyed sitting as a class and did 10 minute challenges that pushed us out of our comfort zones. I also enjoyed the class ‘crits’ we did (which sound scary but really aren’t), as it offers you a fresh perspective on your own artwork and can be really inspiring to hear what others think of your work/theme. I enjoyed this collaborative environment a lot. I also loved our trips to the Tate Modern.
I would recommend doing A Level art because it teaches you crucial creative skills that are relevant to many different creative careers. Also the whole of the art department is extraordinarily welcoming and encouraging.”
The art department runs annual trips to London to visit the galleries and expand your subject knowledge. These will be available to you in both year 12 and 13.
We also have a school arts festival “Arts Fest’” which combines the very best of our creative subjects and shows off just what amazing feats we are capable of here at Huntington.
For art this serves as a final hurrah for all the work you achieve both in year 12 and 13 and is open on a ticketed basis to the public.
You can work in virtually any media, from oil paints, acrylics, charcoal, photography, digital media it’s up to you and we will fully support and guide you. Your outcomes can also differ from 3D to paintings, to film to textiles – almost anything can be made possible.
Here’s some of our wonderful student’s outcome to inspire. We look forward to seeing you in Huntington art department very soon.
